Do I need an app? No. There’s no app to download. Your audio tour plays directly in your phone’s web browser. Simply open your personal tour link and start exploring.
Do I need cell service or GPS? You’ll need cell service, but no GPS is required. The tour plays directly in your phone’s web browser and includes detailed directions to guide you from stop to stop.
How do I receive my audio tour? Your personal tour link is emailed to you immediately after purchase. Open the link on your phone when you’re ready to begin.
Do audio tours expire? Never. One purchase gives you lifetime access. Take the tour whenever you like and return to it as many times as you want.
Can I pause and continue later? Absolutely. Go at your own pace. Pause for lunch, stop for a drink, explore a shop, or come back later. Your tour will be waiting for you.
Are audio tours the same as a live tour? No. These aren’t recordings of our live tours. Each audio tour is researched, written and directed by Steve Chapman, then professionally produced with voice actors, sound effects and cinematic soundtracks specifically for the self-guided experience.
Where do I start the tour? Each tour begins at a different location in historic downtown Salida. Your tour includes the starting location, a complete map and detailed directions from stop to stop.
Can I buy a tour now and use it later? Yes. Your tour does not expire. Buy it before your trip, use it when you arrive, and return to it anytime afterward.

Can I take the tours after dark? Yes. The tours can be taken whenever you like. For nighttime walks, use normal precautions and remember that some downtown businesses, public facilities and attractions may be closed.
How long do audio tours take? Most take about 60–90 minutes, depending on your pace. You can move straight through or take your time exploring downtown, shopping, eating or stopping along the way. There’s no time limit.
Do I need headphones? Headphones or earbuds are recommended, especially when downtown is busy, but they aren’t required. You can also listen through your phone’s speaker.
Are the tours wheelchair accessible? Most of the routes are wheelchair accessible. Downtown Salida has curb ramps at intersections and the tours primarily follow level sidewalks. Any stop that presents an accessibility issue can simply be skipped without affecting the rest of the tour.
Are the tours suitable for children? It depends on the tour. The architecture and general history tours are appropriate for most ages. The Ghost & Murder Tour is rated PG-13 because it includes murders, violent crimes, historical tragedies and other mature subjects. Parents should use their discretion.

How much walking is involved? Most tours cover roughly 10–12 downtown blocks on mostly level sidewalks. Because the tour is self-guided, you can stop, rest or resume later whenever you want.
What happens if the weather turns bad? Nothing—you’re not tied to a schedule. Pause the tour, get out of the weather and continue later that day or another day.
