FAQ

The Answers You Need

WHAT FORMS OF PAYMENT CAN I USE?

Cash is always welcome (exact change is appreciated). You can also pay online with Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover (all via PayPal). We also accept payment through Venmo.

SHOULD I TIP MY GUIDE?

At the end of your tour, if you feel your guide did an exceptional job, tipping is greatly appreciated.  Showing visitors around town is your guide's full-time job.  While the amount of gratuity is a personal preference, $5-$10 per person is a typical amount. You can tip with cash, Venmo, and PayPal.

HOW LONG/DIFFICULT ARE THE TOURS?

All tours are 1.5 hours (about 12 blocks). Our tours are all slow-paced walking, nothing strenuous or uphill.

WHERE IS THE MEETING PLACE FOR MY TOUR?

Salida tours meet ON the F Street Bridge, located near 228 North F Street. Just head toward the S on the mountain! Buena Vista Tours meet near 210 E. Main Street, by the red Town Hall building.

WHEN ARE TOURS AVAILABLE?

Salida--March through November.

Buena Vista--April through November.

Please visit the tour page for an up-to-date schedule of all tour times.

DO YOU EVER CANCEL BECAUSE OF WEATHER?

Rarely. This is in the high country, where the weather can (and does) change without notice. Delays do occur for lightning, but otherwise, rain, sleet, snow, or scorching sun, the show goes on. Dress for the elements.

HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE ON A TOUR?

Tour sizes vary from 10-20 guests.

CAN I BRING MY DOG?

Only service dogs as approved by the Americans with Disabilities Act. Emotional support, comfort, and companion dogs are not allowed on any tour.

I LIVE HERE. WHAT CAN YOU SHOW ME?

Locals are surprised every day!  That's one of the most rewarding things of this business--making Salida and Buena Vista comes alive for locals. Even long-time residents are surprised at what they learn about their town.  Plus, you'll have a blast.  Just check our reviews.

WILL CHILDREN HAVE FUN?

Absolutely! Your guide loves well-behaved kids and includes them in the storytelling. Children will hear about life before social media and electronics, and their eyes always grow wide when hearing stories about gunfights and of towns with few laws or rules. Please be aware some tours discuss the red light district, ghosts, and murders. All tours are rated PG-13.

IS THE ROUTE WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE?

Yes. The streets and sidewalks of downtown Salida and Buena Vista have access for all. Routes have designed to take advantage of these wheelchair ramps.

DO YOU OFFER CUSTOMIZED OR PRIVATE TOURS?

Absolutely. Our tours are customizable for weddings, family reunions, and most any gathering you can imagine. Click here for details.

HOW DO I MAKE A RESERVATION?

You can book online or call 719-497-9444. Reservations must be made at least one hour in advance, although many tours fill up days ahead.
